AP 2D Art
I embarked on a sustained investigation where I explored what defines “home”. I’ve moved several times, and have struggled to understand where on the spectrum between my physical and social environments I believe “home” is. I used 2D art as a method of finding the balance between physical and social environments, so that I can answer my question of: “What is home?”
"Reflect" Both the physical (red side) and social environment (blue side) reflect onto me and have shaped who I am -oil pastels on mat board
"Grasp" Visual demonstration of my attempt to grasp the definition of "home" -oil pastels on mat board for hand -alcohol based markers on drawing paper for houses
"Intertwined" My idea of home doesn't just comprise of one location, but is a combination of multiple environments, intertwining together to make a "home" -watercolor on watercolor paper, sewed together with embroidery thread
"Overlapping" My social and physical environments overlap to create a home, however it is the social environment that overpowers the physical environment -watercolor on watercolor paper for house -prisma colored pencils for hands
"Luminate" The physical environment is what unites people, however it is the social environment that brings life and illuminates a home -graphite and charcoal on mat board for exterior -fine point felt pens for interior
